A Night of Power and Hope: Glamorous Fundraiser for Make-A-Wish
Abu Dhabi, UAE – On December 4, 2024, the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers became the setting for an unforgettable evening of glamour, generosity, and hope. The exclusive event, Night of Power and Hope, hosted by famed F1 journalist Inga Stracke and supported by Conrad Abu Dhabi, brought together VIP guests from around the world to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Coinciding with the week of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the event combined the thrill of motorsport with the heartwarming mission of granting wishes to children facing critical illnesses.
The night featured an elegant blend of luxury and philanthropy, offering guests a live auction and raffles for rare Formula 1 collectibles. Highlights included Mika Häkkinen’s iconic “Flying Finn” McLaren photo which he personally signed and the race suit of FIA Safety Car driver Bernd Mayländer, personally signed for the auction winner.
Extraordinary Moments for an Extraordinary Cause
The evening began with heartfelt words from event organizers, emphasizing the transformative power of granting wishes. One speaker eloquently remarked, “Every wish granted changes a life. It brings joy, strength, and hope to children and their families. Tonight, your support sends a clear message: their dreams matter, and we stand with them.”
Guests were treated to live art by internationally acclaimed artist Ami Foster, who donated two of his works to the auction. Foster’s creative process captivated attendees, adding a dynamic touch to the evening’s proceedings.
A Legacy of Giving
Make-A-Wish’s impact was vividly illustrated through personal stories. A speaker recounted the story of Sam, a 17-year-old battling bone cancer, whose wish to attend a Formula 1 race was fulfilled, leaving a lasting impact on his life. “A wish is more than a moment of joy,” the speaker shared. “It’s a profound experience that allows a child to dream beyond their illness and envision a future filled with possibilities.”
This year alone, Make-A-Wish partnered with Formula 1 to grant 50 life-changing wishes. The collaboration brought smiles to children who met their racing heroes, experienced the thrill of the racetrack, and stepped into their dream worlds.
A Night to Remember
Attendees were also treated to a champagne toast sponsored by Ferrari Trento, the official sparkling wine of Formula 1. The brand’s CEO shared a heartfelt note about their commitment to philanthropy, stating, “Every bottle raised tonight contributes to making dreams come true, reflecting the essence of what we stand for as a company.”
The auction and raffles generated significant funds, with attendees enthusiastically participating. Rare prizes, such as an official Pirelli Pole Position Award tire signed by the 2024 Formula 1 drivers, drew competitive bids. One guest was thrilled to win a unique artwork incorporating materials used in F1 helmet design.
Looking Ahead with Hope
The event also highlighted Make-A-Wish UAE’s remarkable milestones, including granting its 7,000th wish. The foundation, led by Her Highness Sheikha Sheikha bint Saif Al Nahyan, continues to bring joy to children across the UAE, Jordan, and Yemen.
As the evening concluded, guests were reminded of the ongoing need for support. “Every 25 seconds, somewhere in the world, a child is diagnosed with a critical illness. Tonight, your generosity is the spark that will ignite hope for countless children,” said a Make-A-Wish representative.
