Sergio Pérez Set to Leave Red Bull After Abu Dhabi GP, Reports Fox Sports México
Mexican driver Sergio Pérez, struggling throughout the 2024 season with Red Bull Racing, is reportedly set to part ways with the team after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, according to Fox Sports México. The decision fuels speculation that Pérez will be replaced for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Pérez’s Declining Performance Raises Concerns
Pérez, currently ranked 8th in the Drivers’ Championship, has faced significant challenges this year. Among drivers from the top four teams, he holds the lowest position, with a glaring performance gap compared to his teammate, Max Verstappen. While Verstappen has already secured the World Championship with an impressive 429 points, Pérez lags far behind at just 152 points.
The Mexican driver has not stood on the podium since the Chinese Grand Prix in Round 5 of the 2024 season. Additionally, his last race victory dates back to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in April 2023—an unusually long drought for a Red Bull driver.
Will Abu Dhabi 2024 Be Pérez’s Final Race with Red Bull?
According to Fox Sports México, the Abu Dhabi GP could mark Pérez’s final race for Red Bull. The Austrian team is reportedly deliberating how to manage their parting with the Mexican driver.
The media outlet noted, “The driver’s reaction to the team’s decision to discontinue his contract will determine the nature of their separation. Terminating the contract is expected to cost Red Bull a six-figure amount in USD.”
What’s Next for Sergio Pérez?
Pérez’s future in Formula 1 remains uncertain, but Fox Sports México hints that the upcoming Cadillac entry into F1 in 2026 could provide an opportunity for him to secure a regular seat on the grid.
Meanwhile, Red Bull is evaluating potential successors, with Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson emerging as top candidates. Their promotion would pave the way for Isack Hadjar to debut in Formula 1 with AlphaTauri (Racing Bulls) in 2025.
