Toto Wolff Honors Lewis Hamilton: “A Legacy Beyond Our Sport”
Toto Wolff praised the collaboration between the two as the seven-time world champion enters his final grand prix with Mercedes before becoming a Ferrari driver in 2025.
After 12 incredible years, this weekend we are about to write the final chapter of our story with Lewis,” Wolff said in a Mercedes statement ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It’s been an amazing journey, and when we started working together in 2013, we could never have imagined what was to follow: six drivers’ titles; eight constructors’ titles; 84 wins; 78 poles; 153 podiums; the most successful driver-team partnership in Formula One history; the most successful team in the history of the sport; the most successful team in the history of the sport; the most successful team in the history of the sport; the most successful team in the history of the sport. We have shared many of the greatest moments and we have overcome some of the most devastating downturns together.”
But our relationship goes beyond numbers and statistics. It is a legacy beyond our sport and a lasting impact beyond the circuit. It is a legacy that strives to increase the diversity of our sport. He fought for inclusion. Lewis was a catalyst for so much and we are proud to have worked hand in hand with him. This effort won’t end this year, but it began with the impetus Luis gave.”
Wolff: “Hamilton will always be a part of our family”
“This weekend is a time of celebration,” Wolff continues. It is a time to celebrate all that we have achieved together. Lewis’ relationship with Mercedes goes back 26 years. Every lap of his career has been propelled by the three-pointed star. We will honor this unprecedented history in Abu Dhabi and later in Kuala Lumpur, Stuttgart, Brixworth and Brackley. And we honor him knowing that even as this phase of our relationship comes to an end, Lewis will always remain a part of our family.”
Right now, we are focused on the race weekend. There is no better way to mark the end of our relationship than with a great performance on the track. The entire team is working hard to add another great accomplishment to his list of accomplishments. We also want to end the season on a great note. It will help keep the momentum going through the winter and into the new chapter of 2025. With George [Russell] as our leader and Kimi [Antonelli] as our new talent, our future is bright. But let’s end this chapter on a good note. Thank you, Luis: let’s get it done, once and for all.”
